Jasper designed this entirely themselves: from cutlist to finish. Get inspired by the materials used below — and then think about how you would tackle it. We make sure the wood is accurate to the millimetre; the rest is up to you.

A homemade hallway cabinet for shoes and children's coats

A tidy hallway starts with a convenient place for your everyday items. To achieve this, Jasper made a floating hallway unit himself using white TRONES shoe cabinets, a low children's coat rack, and a round mirror. The custom-cut wood from OPMAATZAGEN.nl forms the connecting base. This shows how you can bring together individual storage pieces with a custom wooden design into one harmonious whole.

From freestanding shoe cabinets to a wall-mounted shoe cabinet

On the left, the furniture consists of twelve white shoe cabinets, arranged in two columns and six rows. The tilting fronts feature a recessed, curved handle detail. In the final photo, one compartment is open, clearly showing how the shoes disappear behind the front. A narrow wooden frame along the top, sides, and bottom gives the collection of cabinets the appearance of custom-made furniture.

The cabinet hangs freely from the floor, without visible legs. This keeps the entrance area airy and allows you to clean underneath the unit. The tall layout makes optimal use of the wall: handy if you want to store a lot of shoes without placing a wide cabinet in the walkway.

A wooden back panel with soft corners

Behind and next to the shoe cabinet, you see a tall, light-colored wooden wall with distinct grain and dark knots. On the right, the outer corners are rounded. These curves soften the large surface and complement the round mirror beautifully. An upright wooden side panel separates the shoe cabinet from the coat rack section and creates a neat transition between the two functions.

A children's coat rack at an accessible height

On the right is a lightweight hook rail with multiple double hooks, positioned low on the wooden back wall. In the photo, children's coats are hanging on it. With a children's coat rack like this, you give even the youngest members of the household their own place to hang their coats. Above it hangs a round mirror with a wide wood-colored frame and a strikingly shaped lower section. This way, you combine storage with a final glance before you leave the house.

A practical spot next to the front door

The hallway vanity stands directly next to the dark front door, against a white wall. The light wood tones complement the wood-colored floor, while the white cabinet fronts match the walls. The colorful doormat provides a playful accent. It is precisely here that the combination comes into its own: shoes off, coat on the hook, and everything stays together at the entrance.

Handmade with wood cut to size from OPMAATZAGEN.nl

Jasper realized this DIY project himself, using custom-cut wood from OPMAATZAGEN.nl. In the construction photos, you can see the wooden wall and the partition panel already in place before the shoe cabinets are fully installed. You can also see a hand-drawn design sketch with dimension notes and rounded corners. This beautifully illustrates how a personal idea becomes a personalized hallway piece of furniture step by step.

By having the wood cut to size, you can focus on fitting, assembling, and finishing. You match the wooden components to the available wall space and the chosen cabinets. For a similar design, also check in advance how much space the tilt-and-turn fronts and the front door require to open.

Freedom in layout, materials, and budget

DIY gives you freedom of choice: how many shoe compartments do you need, how high should the coat rack be, and which wood suits your interior? By combining existing cabinet modules with custom-made wood, you don't have to build every component from scratch. This allows you to make targeted choices within your budget. Your final costs will, of course, depend on the dimensions, the cabinet modules, the wood, and the finish.

Scandinavian style

With light wood, white fronts, and simple lines, this finished hallway furniture takes on a Scandinavian look. The visible knots add warmth, while the rounded corners and round mirror make the design inviting. This way, you give a practical family entrance a calm, personal atmosphere.

The wood used: Timberboard Pine light

With Timberboard Pine light, you give hallway furniture a light, natural base. This pine wood has a recognizable grain and visible knots, giving each panel its own character. It is easy to work with and offers possibilities for a finish to your taste. The light color combines beautifully with white shoe cabinets and makes a large wooden wall surface appear visually calm. This way, you add warmth with custom-made wood without making your hallway look dark.
