Colourful Sliding Door Storage Cabinet: An Inspiring DIY Project
In this project, Paul created a beautiful and functional storage cabinet inspired by the iconic designs of Charles and Ray Eames. With sliding doors, colourful panels and a sturdy design, this cabinet will be an eye-catcher in any room.
Construction and materials
The cabinet is constructed from Plywood Poplar Birch B/BB veneer and Hardboard Perforated white, giving it a lightweight but sturdy construction. The sliding doors are a playful combination of yellow and orange perforated panels, which provide a cheerful look and create a variable storage system. Each door can be easily moved, making the cabinet flexible in use.
Location and Functionality
Taking centre stage in the living room, the cabinet acts as both a storage solution and a stylish piece of furniture. The transparent nature of the perforated panels provides an interesting view of the contents, while the colours blend harmoniously with the rest of the room's furnishings.
Unique features
Paul designed the cabinet in two versions, each with its own unique charm. The use of custom-sawn wood by OPMAATZAGEN.nl offers the freedom to customise the dimensions and materials exactly to the desired style and functionality.
Design and types of wood
Plywood Poplar Birch B/BB veneer
This wood type is very lightweight and easy to work with, ideal for creative furniture pieces like this cabinet. The smooth finish gives an elegant look that also adds visual value to the cabinet.
Hardboard Perforated white
Hardboard Perforated is a versatile choice for doors and panels. It offers both ventilation and a playful look to the cabinet interior, perfect for variable and dynamic design.
DIY tips
A useful tip for making sliding doors is to ensure a smooth rail and properly adjusted wheels. This will ensure the doors slide back and forth smoothly.
With this project, Paul has not only created a functional piece, but also an artful addition to his interior. Why not take on the challenge of creating something so special yourself?
