A homemade bookcase that completes your home office
A place for your books, work supplies, and favorite memories: with this 240 cm wide beige bookcase, you can see how beautifully they can all go together. An made the project entirely herself, using custom-cut wood from OPMAATZAGEN.nl. The result is a tall wall cabinet with a playful compartment division and quiet, closed storage space.
Open compartments and closed doors in one design
The photos show a rectangular cabinet that reaches almost to the ceiling. The lower section consists of four compartments with flat doors. Above this, open compartments and three larger closed sections alternate. The horizontal shelves are not at the same height throughout. This creates an asymmetrical layout, with space for both small accessories and tall objects.
The beige color extends across the doors, sides, and the inside of the compartments. There are no visible handles, which accentuates the clean lines. In the open sections, you can see books, photo frames, small drums, a hanging plant, and a tall vase with dried grasses, among other things. This makes the bookcase not only practical but also a personal display space.
Smartly laid out, also behind the doors
The assembly photos show how you can create plenty of storage space behind the clean front. Multiple shelves have been installed in the bottom four sections. Rows of small holes in the uprights offer options to adjust the shelf height. This allows you to tailor the layout to what you want to store, rather than the other way around.
A suitable bookcase for a narrow study
The cabinet stands along the long wall, opposite the desk. At the end of the room, a window and light window coverings provide daylight. A radiator stands under the window. By organizing the storage space along one wall and primarily vertically, you make smart use of the compact office.
The light floor and warm walls complement the beige furniture beautifully. The dark desk and blue office chair provide contrast. Moreover, you can see how the sunlight emphasizes the depth of the open compartments. The closed doors keep items out of sight, while the open compartments prevent the large cabinet from becoming one solid surface.
From custom-cut panels to a complete wall cabinet
In the construction photos, you can see the loose beige panels sorted on a protective backing. A bag of wooden dowels and toolboxes are also visible. Next, you first see the low base with vertical dividers, and then the complete cabinet with shelves and hinges, though still without doors. This gives you a clear picture of the construction: from individual parts to a complete, self-made piece of furniture.
OPMAATZAGEN.nl took care of cutting the wood to size for this project. With parts cut to size, you can focus on aligning, joining, and assembling during construction. Especially with a design featuring so many different compartments, a well-developed parts list provides a solid foundation.
Making it yourself gives you freedom
With a custom design, you determine the width, the compartment division, and the ratio of open to closed space yourself. For this bookcase, the width of 240 cm serves as the starting point. For your own version, you can adjust the dimensions to suit your wall and your belongings. You also choose the panel material and the finish yourself. Furthermore, by assembling it yourself, you maintain better control over your budget; the final cost depends on your choice of materials, hardware, and design.
Warm modern style
With the soft beige hue and straight lines, you give your home office a warm, modern look. The asymmetrical compartments make the whole piece lively without becoming cluttered. By adding natural accessories, greenery, and personal souvenirs, the sleek bookcase takes on its own character. A beautiful example of how your workspace can also be cozy.
The material used
For this project, An used . This is chipboard-based furniture board, not a solid wood type. The decorative finish gives you a uniform beige appearance without the need to paint the surface in that color. The material is a budget-friendly choice for custom furniture and can be cut to size for various panels and configurations. Neatly finished edges complete the look.
