Plywood Hardwood Maple B/BB veneer lacquered: what is it?
Plywood panels are boards composed of several veneer layers. In this case, a core of hardwood and a top layer ofesdoorn veneer. Plywood is one of the oldest and, partly for this reason, one of the most popular variants among wood panel materials.
Hardwood core
This plywood panel is composed of several hardhouten veneer layers. These layers are cross-glued to each other. This results in a stable panel. Nevertheless, the wood glued together remains, during sawing and machining plywood can release tension which can cause longer panels to have a slight warp. For this reason, it is important to assemble these panels properly.
Plywood Hardwood Maple B/BB veneer lacquered, sheet material with a natural top layer
Unlike melaminated board material, the top layer of veneered panels is a layer of real wood. This gives the material a calm, natural look. Because it is a natural product, there may be colour and texture differences between different panels. No two panels are the same. In addition, it is important that this panel is finished with a lacquer or oil as desired. This prevents discolouration and preserves the top layer.
Maple veneered wood
Wood veneer with maple appearance has a bright and light aesthetic, characterised by a soft, neutral colour and a fine, even grain. The veneer often shows subtle markings with a uniform appearance.
The look of maple veneer is fresh and timeless, making it a versatile choice for various interior styles. The colour of the veneer usually ranges from light to medium brown, depending on the specific source of the wood.
Maple wood veneer is often appreciated for its simple and elegant look, making it suitable for furniture, cabinets, interior finishes and decorative elements. Its even grain and bright colour allow maple veneer to be effortlessly combined with other materials and colours, making it a popular choice for both modern and traditional designs.
Visual quality structural B/BB
The visual quality of plywood is indicated by letter combinations that describe the quality of the top layers. The first letter stands for the visible side (top) and the second letter for the reverse side (bottom). This classification only refers to the face veneer; other properties, such as gluing or structural strength, are assessed separately. Read more about all visual qualities here.
A common combination is B/BB, which is regularly used in structural or less decorative applications. In this designation, ‘B’ indicates the quality of the visible side, while ‘BB’ describes the quality of the reverse side.
This sheet material is B/BB grade. This means that the top side (B side) generally has a neat appearance, but may still contain natural irregularities such as slight colour variations, small knots or subtle repairs. The underside (BB side) has more visible imperfections, such as larger knots, repairs and variations in colour and structure.
Because the visual quality is slightly lower than that of higher classifications, B/BB plywood is often used in construction projects, interior finishes, furniture construction and situations where the surface may be visible, but aesthetics are not the most important requirement. The material offers a good balance between technical performance and an acceptable appearance for functional applications. This also keeps the board affordable.
In short: B/BB plywood offers a decent visual quality that is suitable for construction applications where a neat but not perfectly finished appearance is sufficient.
Lacquered top layer
Finished veneer offers several advantages, including durability through protection against moisture and wear, easy maintenance, enhanced aesthetics with a glossy appearance, ready to use immediately without additional finishing, environmental friendliness through efficient use of wood resources and versatility for various design styles. It combines the natural beauty of wood with practical properties, making it a popular choice in furniture and interior design.

Edit Plywood Hardwood Maple B/BB veneer lacquered sheets
Plywood is an easy sheet material to work with, if you have sharp tools. For drilling holes, we recommend a wood drill with a centre point. Pre-drilling is also recommended for this sheet material. This board material may discolour over time, so finish it with a (clear) varnish, stain or paint. Use an edge sealer to finish the edges of plywood, this will prevent the varnish or stain from soaking into the plywood, which can lead to the loosening of the veneer layers.
Specific applications
Plywood birch is very suitable for projects such as floorboards, joinery, moulds, but also for decorative applications such as tabletops, a countertop, furniture and toys.
