A New Ceiling
After some work was done on our roof, a few roof tiles weren’t properly put back. As a result, we had a leak near our dormer window. The ceiling started to show brown stains and the roofing board became saturated with water. Once we opened up the damaged sections, we could check through the hole to see if the leak had been resolved. Once it was fixed, it was time to repair the damage and restore the dormer window.
Ceiling Repair with MDF
To repair the dormer ceiling, we needed to fit a new board — but you can’t find this size at a hardware store. OPMAATZAGEN.nl came to the rescue. They offer all kinds of wood in all kinds of custom sizes. Perfect! We chose MDF Lakdraag. This is an MDF board with a lacquer-bearing foil so the ceiling paint doesn’t immediately soak into the wood while painting.
The board was neatly delivered with a protective edge to prevent damage. It was cut to the exact size and fit perfectly. I marked out the positions of the beams on the MDF and pre-drilled and countersunk four holes per beam, so the screws would sit flush and could later be smoothly finished with filler. I also had to hand-cut two small corners because of the skirting boards against the window frame. Mounting the board was the heaviest part of the job, but once it was screwed in place, I could start sealing the edges and filling the screw holes. After that, I painted everything (including the side walls) so it all looked like one clean, finished surface again.
