What is the maximum height my cabinet can have and still be under the ceiling?

To assemble the cabinet, you need some clearance between the cabinet and the ceiling. This is because the top rail has to be lifted over the dowels of the top row of uprights before it can be fitted. So measure the height in several places, use the smallest measurement and subtract the required clearance from it.

How much clearance you need depends on how comfortably you want to be able to work:

• 2 cm The absolute minimum space to slide the top shelf over the dowels and lower it into place. Note: assembly is difficult this way, as you have hardly any working room.
• 5 cm Recommended minimum. This gives you enough room to assemble the cabinet reasonably comfortably.
• 10 cm Generous choice. You can reach the shelf with your hand to pull it in tight and position it properly.

Tip: assembling with limited space (2-5 cm)

Did you opt for the minimum clearance? Then place, for example, a try square or something similar between the panel and the ceiling, and gently tap the panel with it. If you do this at several points, the panel is pressed firmly against the adjoining uprights.

If space is very limited, use a thin strip or a block of wood wrapped in a cloth. The cloth prevents damage to the ceiling and the top of the cabinet. By gently tapping the strip between the ceiling and the cabinet, you apply pressure to the top panel so that it still settles neatly into place.
